How Miscommunication Happens (And How To Avoid It)

Two finger facing each other

Think of two people like radio transmitters and receivers. Each person is tuned to a specific frequency to communicate. If both people are on the same frequency, the message is clear and understanding flows smoothly. But if they’re on different frequencies, signals get mixed up, leading to miscommunication. Miscommunication occurs because their "channels" aren't aligned, making the transmitted message distorted or lost entirely. By actively tuning into the same frequency—through active listening, summarizing, and reflecting back—we can ensure we're on the same wavelength and minimize misunderstandings.
